Male Athlete of the Issue: Ramón Barboa

Written by: Jack Day

As fall sports come to a close the athletic focus on campus shifts toward our basketball, basketball cheer, swim, and wrestling teams. Although there are numerous students that excel on the athletic stage in their respective sports, senior Ramon Barboa has proven himself on the mat in his first two years of wrestling and looks to continue his dominance for one last high school season.

Ramon was an original member of the team when our school brought wrestling back as a varsity sport in 2022 and hit the ground running immediately. His first season was spent mainly learning the fundamentals of the sport while cultivating a passion for the grind that is wrestling. In his second season he was voted captain of the team and continued to grow as a wrestler while also cultivating a culture for the future of the program. Most recently, Ramon competed in the Chatham County Invitational Tournament and took first place in the 165LB weight class.

We are all very excited to follow Ramon’s senior season and have great expectations for his individual and team success. Ramon is still considering a few collegiate landing spots for him to continue his wrestling career at the next level. Good luck Ramon and Goooo Hornets!
