Teacher Interview: Mrs. Wallace
Written by: Sarah Sussman
Mrs. Wallace is an incredible role model and a wealth of knowledge, always inspiring her students to love learning. As both a dean and a chemistry teacher, she balances her responsibilities with grace and kindness. She genuinely cares for each student, making every interaction meaningful and encouraging.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
I never planned to be a teacher, but after working in government labs and training others, I transitioned to teaching part-time when we moved to Savannah. I eventually found my way to Country Day through local connections (Adam Weber).
What was your favorite class you took in high school?
It was probably chemistry or one of my math classes, but I also loved English and really enjoyed reading, especially AP Lit.
What is the most important lesson you want your students to learn from your class?
I want my students to know two things: first, kindness is everything, and treating people well will take you far in life. Second, everything will be okay—it's fine not to have a plan right away; I was undeclared for two and a half years in college before deciding on chemistry, and everything still worked out. You should go with the flow and enjoy being young.
What’s your favorite part of the school day?
My favorite part of the school day is any time I get to interact with students, whether it’s walking around campus in the morning or going outside during break. I just like talking with people.
What’s your favorite type of student?
I love any student who has a real zest and vigor for learning—those who stay behind after class just to ask random, curious questions about topics that excite them.
