Shakespeare In Love: Theatre Update

Written by Caroline Bergmann

To hit off the 24-25 season of shows, the Upper School will be performing Shakespeare in Love.

Shakespeare in Love is a dramatic show filled with romance and comedy, taking place in London during the late 16th century.  It follows the story of young William Shakespeare, dealing with writer's block. While his current production is going downhill, he meets Viola de Lesseps. As we watch the two fall in love, he is inspired to continue writing the stories everyone knows and loves today.

Rehearsals have been in progress for a little over a month now, and so far have been very productive. From sword-fighting to set changes, everything has gone smoothly. Performances will be held in Jelks Auditorium on November 5th and 6th at 7:00 pm. On November 7th, the cast will compete in the US OAP Region competition at Vidalia High School. They will compete against six other schools, including Saint Vincent’s Academy and Savannah Christian.

If the cast is victorious at the regional competition, on November 23rd, they will compete in the US OAP State Competition, hoping to retain their title as State Champions.

On another note, the Upper School musical was recently announced: 9 to 5. Adapted from the 1980s movie starring Dolly Parton, it's a musical comedy following the story of three women, Doralee, Judy, and Violet, who try to sabotage their company's sleazy, egotistical boss. Auditions will be held December 6th-12th, with performances in Jelks Auditorium on February 20th, 21st, and 22nd.
Make sure to catch both of these great shows, you don’t want to miss them!!
