Tennis

As the weather begins to warm up, multiple sports start their seasons. One of those in tennis for the boy Hornets, and they have a lot to look forward to this season with such a unique team.

With superstar seniors Henry Berg and Nico Dacscombe taking their lives to Wake Forest and Carnegie Mellon, respectively, coaches and players alike began to wonder how they were going to pull off a winning record, let alone an immaculate undefeated regional season like last year’s. However, upon hearing this, the youthful tennis team took it as a challenge and has been working hard to start off on the right foot.

With the sole senior Turner Birthdesel leading the way at first singles, the Hornets have gone undefeated so far in their six games of play. Additionally, sophomore Reed Dulany and juniors Finlay Taylor, Wills Davis, Luke Fountain, Paxton Towe, and Charlie Glidewell have contributed significantly to the so-far perfect record.

But, the real success story comes in the form of second singles player Frank Kamaleson, a freshman playing in a crucial spot that many seniors never get the chance to play in. Second singles is often the second-best player on the team and is also one of the most crucial matches in gaining a victory for the team overall. Yet, this pressure doesn’t seem to faze Frank, as he put on an undefeated record with an impressive win against 2-star recruit Bay Luke of Effingham High School.

Ultimately, the Hornets look forward to a successful season this year.
