Thanksgiving Review
Written by: Mimi Dulany
The first thing I think of when I think of the fall holiday, Thanksgiving, is food. So much delicious food. Whether it comes from a restaurant, pre-made, or homemade, usually the dinner contains the three staple items: turkey, mashed potatoes, and green beans. In my family, however, each person brings a dish, meaning that by the end of the night, there are tons of empty unique trays lining the buffet table.
My favorite Thanksgiving dish, by far, is my great aunt’s mac and cheese. It is a creamy, cheesy, delicious dish that is a secret family recipe and tradition. I believe that many in my family would argue that it is the best dish as well as it is usually gone by the end of the night. The worst Thanksgiving dish, in my opinion, is stuffing. 50% of people make stuffing from scratch. To be honest, I don’t even know what it is. It just seems like a big glob of mush. I think many agree with me because there is usually more than half in the tray leftover by the time everyone has finished eating. A dish that I find in between the amazing mac and cheese and the mushy stuffing is the sweet potato with marshmallow combination. It depends on the day whether I like it or not. Sometimes, it is too sweet for me, other times it is just right. Whether you are a ham or turkey person, mac and cheese or mashed potatoes person, or all of the above, Thanksgiving is a holiday to not only come together, but try new things.
