Basketball Cheer
Written by: Bella Bentley
Why just have cheerleaders for football, when you can have them for basketball too? A brand new team has arrived at SCDS, the Basketball Cheer team. This team comprises 20 members, with captains being Tallulah Fitzgerald and Bella Bentley, who are excited to help start this new program. Due to the program being new, the team has had to work from scratch with everything, including cheers and routines. Led by Coach Lindsey Turner, they will be cheering and performing at 10 home games this basketball season, cheering for both girls’ and boys’ teams. Turner says, “I am so excited to be starting a new season of basketball cheer. Our football cheerleading program’s success has expanded so much that we needed more seasons to fulfill the demand. Basketball cheerleading is a completely different type of cheer. A bit more palm, hip-hop, and jazz focused, which is much different than our football Cheerleading. I think we all are looking forward to a great successful basketball season! Let’s go Hornet Basketball! The girls have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming season, starting with their intensive 48 hours spent at the school learning routines for the season. As mentioned, basketball cheerleading will exhibit a new style, unlike anything seen before at Country Day. They will be performing the two different dances at halftime of both the Varsity girls’ and boys’ games. So while you are attending basketball games this year, make sure to come and show your support of this amazing program!
