"Iron Mike" vs. the Youtuber Guy: What's Next After the Mike Tyson and Jake Paul Fight
Written by: Carter Herman
While “Iron” Mike Tyson is striking fear into the hearts of many, it's not his usual audience, specifically up-and-coming boxers on the prowl. His newfound geriatric presence only scares the children of the 20th century who have seen a once unbeatable man crumble before their eyes and, to be frank, the nurses changing Tyson’s sheets in his nursing home. Although some might tell you, “The fight wasn’t that bad” or “He was still injured,” don’t fall into this trap; rather, analyze it for a genuine travesty in the boxing community. A community that once held such an elite pedigree has since fallen by the wayside with the rise of social media star turned boxer, Jake Paul. While the fighting community has largely underestimated Paul, it’s not controversial to say he has not challenged himself, fighting a bevy of washed-up athletes, including “fun-size” basketball players like Nate Robinson, and once again picking on the geriatric community, this time in MMA with a fight against Anderson Silva. So, how did Jake Paul, a new fighter possessing a meh record at best, stun the boxing community? The obvious answer is the boxing community's esoteric belief that boxing is not possible for foreigners to succeed in. This might have been true and provable had Mike Tyson not been fifty-eight. It does not take a biologist to account for the discrepancy between Paul, a twenty-seven-year-old, with the best recovery technology and an athletic background, who has fought three times—a lot—in the past year. While Tyson has not fought since 2021 and has a crippling neck injury, only exacerbated by his July health troubles, Tyson looked on fight night as if he could not move his legs. If the boxing community wishes to humble Jake Paul, they must make a better attempt next time. Looking forward, Jake Paul has recently agreed to fight the current heavyweight champion to top the millions of views achieved by the most recent fight. Regardless of if Paul wins the fight, he will still win the game in the long run. He is the hot topic in the boxing entertainment world, profiting millions of dollars off his company, Betr. Whether the boxing fanatics like it or not, Mike Tyson is certainly old news, and Jake Paul is not going anywhere; all they can hope is that “Iron” Mike can get something soft for that back of his with the tens of millions of dollars he earned from the fight, and for what? Anyone who saw the whole equation realized the fight was a simple money ploy for the greatest boxer of all time to ride off into the wind.
